iPad mini Jailbroken on 6.0.1, 6.0 One Day After Launch - A day after Apple’s iPad mini and iPad 4 (4th Generation) launch, Musclenered tweeted proof that the brand new iPad mini has already been jailbroken on 6.0.1, iOS 6. For those of you who aren’t as well versed when it comes to jailbreaking and UnTethered jailbreaks, Musclenerd is the leader and public figure for the iPhone Dev Team: the group of hackers and security experts behind utilities such as Redsn0w and Ultrasn0w.
The image below is a screenshot of the iPad mini running mobile terminal. While not entirely evident, mobile terminal reveals that the Dev Team has managed to successfully achieve root access on the iPad mini, which is essentially what allows for jailbreaking (e.g. the installation of Cydia and third-party packages).
iPad mini 6.0.1 Jailbreak in-depth explanation
Although members Dev Team have successfully jailbroken Apple’s latest creation, a release at this point wouldn’t be logical. The iPad mini was jailbroken by way of a failbreak. As we’ve explained previously on JailbreakingiOS6, a failbreak is essentially a jailbreak method, created by members of the Dev Teams, that relies on an Apple iOS Developer account. Furthermore, due to the methods used to exploit Apple’s firmware and their devices, it would likely spur a legal battle between the hacking community and Apple, which would likely be short-lived.
Also, it’s unclear whether or not the iPad mini was running iOS 6.0 or 6.0.1, but that’s simply a moot point. The iOS firmware version is irrelevant, as the vulnerabilities used to exploit the device aren’t available to the public and thus remain unknown to Apple.
If anything, this news simply assures members of the jailbreak community that the developers are indeed actively working on a solution to jailbreak Apple’s latest 6.0.1 firmware for new iOS-based devices. However, owners of either an iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS or an iPod touch 4th Generation can make use of the iPhone Dev Team’s latest RedSn0w version to jailbreak their device on 6.0.1.
